OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Providing support to the head of the legal department by offering legal advisory services and support to the Group to ensure that regulatory, commercial, and other legal risks are assessed, mitigated, and/or avoided.

The ideal candidate must have excellent administrative and organisational skills, ensure high-quality outcomes by following processes and paying attention to detail, have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Drafting and editing written material upon instruction of the head of legal

  • Receiving and reviewing various agreements for quality control and compliance with internal procedures

  • Assisting and supporting the head of legal and Group stakeholders

  • Drafting various agreements, including lease agreements and addendums

  • Drafting legal letters

  • Researching and drafting opinions on company matters

  • Reviewing agreements (NDAs, Credit Applications, Service Level Agreements, Terms and Conditions, etc.)

  • Staying abreast of legislative developments (including FICA, AML, etc.) and communicating their impact to the Group

  • Assisting with contract management

  • Maintaining confidentiality while handling sensitive information

  • Conducting legal research

  • Liaising with stakeholders across business divisions regarding contractual issues

  • Assisting in maintaining litigation files, including pleadings, case law, memorandums, discovery documents



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB | BCom)

  • Admitted Attorney of the High Court

  • Minimum 5 years’ post-admission experience (preferably in property development, property management, or commercial legal work)

  • Proficiency in Afrikaans & English (advanced)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)


SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of debt recovery principles

  • Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures

  • Exposure to the Insolvency Act, Companies Act, Competition Act, and compliance laws

  • Negotiating terms of commercial agreements

  • Representation, under supervision of the head of legal, with external role players

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and proofreading

  • Flexibility to work overtime and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines

  • Professional interaction with diverse individuals
