OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Our client, a well-regarded litigation law firm based in Cape Town, is seeking a capable and driven Litigation
Associate to join their growing team. The successful candidate will be exposed to a stimulating and diverse
range of civil and commercial litigation matters, with the opportunity to develop strong courtroom and advocacy
skills in a collegial and professional environment.
This role is ideal for an attorney who is passionate about litigation, eager to grow their advocacy experience,
and ready to take real ownership of a varied caseload under the guidance of experienced senior practitioners.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• Handling civil and commercial litigation matters across the High Court, Magistrates’ Court, and various
relevant tribunals
• Drafting pleadings, notices, applications, motions, and all supporting legal correspondence
• Conducting thorough legal research and preparing memoranda and opinions
• Appearing in court and at consultations with clients and counsel
• Managing litigation files from initial instruction through to finalisation
• Liaising with clients, counsel, expert witnesses, and opposing attorneys
• Meeting all court deadlines and filing requirements without exception
• Participating in settlement negotiations where appropriate and strategic
• Assisting senior attorneys and partners on complex and high-value litigation matters


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• LLB degree
• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
• Minimum 2–4 years’ post-admission litigation experience
• Western Cape High Court experience is preferred
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite


SKILLS REQUIRED
• Solid knowledge of the Uniform Rules of Court and the Magistrates’ Court Rules
• Strong drafting skills for pleadings, applications, and all legal correspondence
• Competent courtroom presence and developing advocacy skills
• Excellent legal research and analytical abilities
• Deadline-driven with strong time management and organisational skills
• Ability to independently manage a full and varied litigation caseload
