OVERVIEW OF ROLE
A dynamic and growing litigation law firm based in Johannesburg is seeking a motivated and capable Litigation
Associate to join their busy team. The successful candidate will handle a stimulating and varied caseload across
civil and commercial litigation matters in the High Court and Magistrates’ Court.
This role is ideal for an attorney who is passionate about litigation, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is
ready to take greater ownership of a caseload within a supportive and collaborative practice.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• Handling civil and commercial litigation matters from inception through to finalisation
• Drafting pleadings, notices, applications, and all supporting court documentation
• Conducting legal research and preparing opinions and memoranda
• Appearing in the High Court, Magistrates’ Court, and other relevant tribunals
• Consulting with clients and providing clear, strategic litigation advice
• Preparing matters for trial and attending trials and hearings
• Managing a full caseload and ensuring all critical deadlines are met without exception
• Liaising with counsel, expert witnesses, and opposing attorneys
• Mentoring junior staff and candidate attorneys where appropriate
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• LLB degree
• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
• Minimum 2–5 years’ post-admission litigation experience
• Strong courtroom and procedural experience
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite
SKILLS REQUIRED
• Thorough knowledge of the Uniform Rules of Court and Magistrates’ Court Rules
• Strong drafting skills for pleadings, applications, and all legal correspondence
• Ability to manage a high-volume litigation practice confidently
• Confident courtroom presence and developing advocacy skills
• Excellent legal research and analytical skills
• Deadline-driven with outstanding organisational and time management ability
